Hurricanes, so unpredictable.
The only thing predictable about hurricanes is that they will occur every year. After the tragic stories and loss of life and property people seem to want to go back to the same locations and the same dangers. Nothing seems to change. They are allowed back, to live out lives endangered each year, by living…

Don’t need to build in the Greenbelt
It was highlighted today that there is already so much land available in Ontario for building houses that there is no reason to build on the Greenbelt. We have to keep up the pressure on this government.

A novel for our times
Even though the story I wrote was set in 1954 it is relevant to the Greenbelt fight we are experiencing today. Floods can occur at any time and we must preserve our green spaces so they can absorb water. Pavement cannot do that. Our rivers, creeks and lakes need to have land nearby to absorb…

Stop development of the Greenbelt
In my book, Hurricane Hazel, One Family’s Story, I attempt to show what can happen when governments don’t understand the value of agricultural land, floodplain and wetlands. Building on this land will cause heartache as houses flood, and rivers are overwhelmed with runoff. Pavement does not absorb water and floods are happening more often with…

My novel
Hurricane Hazel showed us how the agricultural land north of Toronto can affect our large, heavily populated city. If the Ontario government allows land to be taken out of the Greenbelt we will all lose this protection. Happy to hear the Federal Government may act on this. Read my book to get a true picture…

Hurricanes
Canada has been struck before, in 1954. Read about it in my novel, Hurricane Hazel, One Family’s Story, to understand just how serious it is to consider removing land from the Greenbelt. We then lose natural protection.

Learning from history
When I see my dog picking up in our patterns I wonder why humans are so slow at doing the same. My historical fiction novel, Hurricane Hazel, One Family’s Story, tells us what happened when we built housing in the way of water… of unexpected natural disasters. The Ford government has given away land to…

The Holland Marsh
In 1954 Hurricane Hazel tore through Ontario, flooding the Holland Marsh and destroyed crops. In 2023, Ford’s government is going to run a highway through the Marsh, destroying crops, and creating a situation where runoff could destroy waterways. We couldn’t prevent a natural disaster but he can be stopped.

Greenbelt protests
We can’t afford to let this go. Developers have more than 80,000 acres of land in Ontario that is undeveloped and not in the Greenbelt. Why are they being permitted to steal our agricultural land, our water sources, endanger wildlife. Once we let them do this, this wonderful resource will be gone forever.
